A “Feminimal” Brooklyn Bridal Shoot

Don’t get us wrong, we love us a nice all-white, ultra-modern set up. But can’t clean and contemporary  sometimes read a little cold? That’s exactly why this Brooklyn-based bridal shoot was such a breath of fresh air.  Set in Sky Gallery, a fitting name for a venue that could churn out a unique breed of urban-ethereal shots, the same-sex portrait series is soft without being overly sentimental. Whats more, the styling, by a handful of Brooklyn’s best wedding vendors located just a few blocks from each other, accomplishes  a feminine feel free of the excess adornments and girly-gauche vibe that potentially plagues bridal photography. Hence, the totally made up word in our post title. Feminimal: the marriage of feminine & minimal styles. You’re welcome.
A simple unexpected gaze, a subtle smile while breathing in the sun. These little moments in between are my biggest inspiration.

See, couple shoots (casual engagement photos included) can be a bit tricky. How do you maintain sophistication and tradition with just enough edge, all while avoiding the trap of cheesy troupes? It’s a a wire most engaged or married couples must walk at some point, but you know what certainly helps? A great photographer. In this case, there’s Quyn Duong. Quyn describes her aesthetic approach as “always looking to evoke authentic emotions while finding those ‘caught off guard’ moments. A simple unexpected gaze, a subtle smile while breathing in the sun. These little moments in between are my biggest inspiration”. And lucky us, now the end product is our inspiration.

Click through the gallery above and check back  soon, because there’s more where these came from. Notables:  great natural/curly hair bridal inspo and a cool-bride-worthy geometric engagement ring. See below for more details.
